BY || MOHD MAJID MALIK | KNO With an aim to take stock of problems being faced by the public of Bhaderwah area, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda- Kishtwar-Ramban, Basant Rath accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Doda Shabir Ahmed Khatana held a public meeting at Dak Banglow here today.A large number of prominent citizens of area which also included journalists , police officers and political leaders and Youth leaders of Bhaderwah were present on the occasion.During the meeting, the DIG stressed the need for police-public coordination and said that the department has adopted the ‘Police Public Participation Group’ (PPPG) concept from foreign nations to maintain the links between public and police directly in the state. He also issued necessary guidelines and instructions to the Police personnel in discharge of their duties Citizens of the area apprised the DIG about their problems and demands .The DIG, assured them that their genuine demands would be taken up with the concerned quarters for sympathetic and favourable consideration.Speaking on the occasion, SSP Doda lauded the efforts of the DIG for holding Public Meeting for addressing the problems of common masses and assured that Doda police would whole heartedly combat the crime and effectively deals in law and order problems. He briefed the police officials to make all possible efforts in improving their quality of policing and prepare for any eventuality. SSP Doda said not narcotics but drugs are more influential in our Doda and Bhaderwah and that is not a good sign. Youth has fallen prey to drug menace and the district police across the state is doing a lot in controlling but seizing certain contrabands, drugs and narcotics alone is not going to solve the problem. It is a bigger challenge as one has to come up with joint strategies. It requires intervention at various levels.Police is definitely doing its bit but this also has to involve parents, teachers. The role of police comes much later. I would request parents to keep an eye on their kids. Police, at the maximum, can control the sale or take action against the illegal sale but their role comes after parents’ and teachers’. Students, these days, look for these routes as escapes and many gullible students get trapped. To solve this, involvement of parents and teachers is necessary. He also said Police performance and Public expectations – that gap needs to be bridged. I think nobody should feel scared of the Police. There has to be a mechanism where people can approach the Police with ease, they should not feel scared coming to the station.Services should be instant. he added and said if one is ignored, it should be easy for the people to reach out to the higher authorities. I think a lot is yet to be improved. From little things like the attitude of a Police constable at Naka to the Police official tackling with the case- much needs attention. A lot has improved with time but a lot more needs to be done.SSP Doda Shabir Ahmed says that his focus would be to ensure that law and order situation is not disturbed by anyone in Bhaderwah . “The rule of law will prevail, and it will be enforced strictly”, he asserts. “The youth are the strength of our society, and we will ensure that their energy is not wasted in such activities making them understand to work for the betterment of the society”, says SSP .ASP Bhaderwah Rajinder Singh , SDPO Brijesh Sharma ,SHO Muneer Khan and other officers were also present on the occasion .
